I have been frequenting this place since 1992! I've eaten well over 100 meals here, and have never been disappointed by the food. It is delicious, consistently. My favourites are the Red Curry, and the crispy noodles with veggies (bamee krob lardna(?), and pad Thai. Always enjoyable.
Just know that since I have been visiting (26 years), I have not noticed any change to decor. The place is not nice looking, but in my opinion the food taste outweighs decor by a mile. If you would rather eat at home, take out from this place always satisfies! -

Great authentic thai food. Tastes different from other places, but in a good way. Really spicy flavors.
I won't write a detailed review, as this is more of a PSA. They have announced they are closing for good March 15 so anyone wanting to go one last time should get on it! -

This is our go to place for authentic, tasty Thai food. Every time we have gone elsewhere we say, "It's not the Great Bangkok Thai."The restaurant itself is a bit in need of a spruce up... but if you want excellent food, go for it!
We have eaten here for years and know that the aging couple work hard and have been a lovely part of the community for a long time. I do not know what we do when they retire...I hope they make a recipe book!
Their pad Thai is great and my favourite is yellow curry...and the prices are great! -

The thing to keep in mind when you visit the Great Bangkok Thai is that the food is awesome. The restaurant itself is pretty run down, the floor is sticky, the bathrooms should be condemned, and the decor is abysmal, but the food is authentic and tasty. The place is run by a husband & wife team, the husband controls the front of the restaurant, and his wife runs the kitchen. I've had almost everything on the menu and am never disappointed. I may be eating the meal with a mismatched set of cutlery, or a dirty fork, or drinking from a glass that has crusties on it, but taste rules all. Plus for $8.50 at lunch, you get a delicious bowl of pineapple soup and a generously-sized entree.

I went there yesterday after reading reviews about how good the food is. The place is old but clean when I entered. It was 4:45 pm. What irks me is that the old lady (presumably the owner), was sitting and saw me coming in and just stared at me. No greetings whatsoever. I then asked if they are already opened, and she said "Yes". I told her that it was my first time to visit as I just moved in from another city. She didn't even exchange pleasantries. Told me to grab the menu folder. Then, I casually mention I am not sure what to order. She just went behind the cashier counter and looked at me. I felt like I wanted to just go out and leave the place. I don't know if she even want to have a business that day. I had to prod her for suggestions of the specialties they have. To which she finally ask, what do you want to eat? She left with my first order of soup but never bothered coming back to ask if there is anything more. I had to look for her and found a man (probably the husband) who can't even smile at a customer. I had to stand up and call for his attention and told him that I want my second order taken.
I just give them the benefit of the doubt that they are tired, may be having a feud, or plainly suffering from depression due to the gloomy weather of BC.
Food-wise, it was quite good. Good portions too. I had enough left-overs for another meal. But I lost my appetite with my meal while there, feeling that I may not be welcomed there or I may have been a "nuisance" to them (That's how they made me feel).
I just put one star for the food.
